Private Iranian airline Mahan Air will launch non-stop scheduled passenger services to Birmingham, UK and Amritsar, India from Tehran’s IKA Airport next month.
The non-stop Tehran-Birmingham service will operate three times weekly from July 2 and the Tehran-Amritsar service will operate four times weekly from July 3.
This will take the airline’s total international destinations to 14.
The new services will be operated by two-class A310-300 aircraft, each with 204 seats including 16 new business class seats.
“These are significant route developments and demonstrate a continuing commitment of Mahan Air to providing opportunity for our passengers to access a broader network,” said Mahan Air director of marketing and route development Hossein Hosseini.
To celebrate the new flights, Mahan Air is offering triple miles to its ‘Mahan&Miles’ members.
In other Mahan Air news, Hosseini said the airline’s service to Dusseldorf, which was temporarily suspended due to a ban over safety issues (between September 2007 and July 2008), was now doing well.
“We have re-captured all the market that we lost due to our ban and we are up to six flights weekly,” he said.
“Other routes are doing good as well and interestingly we have increased capacity by 16% in 200,” he added.
Mahan Air has also started a third daily flight between Dubai and Tehran and since February 1 2009, has operated from Dubai International Airport’s Terminal 1.
The Dubai route is served by one B747-400 aircraft and two A310s each day.
