When Mahan Air started its initial operations in 1991, it consisted of a fleet with two Tupolev 154 aircraft, plying flights from Tehran to two other domestic destinations. Mahan Air recognizes that fleet composition is one of the key factors contributing to success in the air transport business.

Mahan Air started growing at a rapid pace, with the addition of Airbus A300 wide-body aircraft into its fleet in 1999. This was followed in 2002, by the addition of the long range Airbus 310 and Airbus 300 into its fleet.  This addition enabled the airline to cover destinations beyond its region such as bangkok.

Over the passing years, the airline has recorded a substantial growth. In the present time, the airline has acquired 13% business of all international flights from Iran, while it has plies 8% of the total number of domestic flights in Iran. Mahan Air has also introduced the A320, the most popular narrow-body passenger aircraft in the world to its fleet.

Mahan Air’s current fleet is economically efficient and has high passenger appeal. Its range is flexible and able to cover domestic, regional or international routes to Europe and the Far East. Mahan Airline fleet plan calls for the acquisition of more modern narrow and wide-body transports to accommodate continuous growth.

Mahan Air operates a fleet consisting of 23 active aircrafts, which includes McDonnell Douglas MD-82, Boeing 747-400, Boeing 747-300, BAe 146-300, Airbus A310-300, Airbus A300B4 and Airbus A300B2.
